Wednesday, April 2, Moran Environmental Recovery personnel respond to an over-turned tanker on I-26 in Rosinville, South Carolina. The driver of the tractor-trailer escaped the accident with a few cuts, but authorities concern grew with reports that he was hauling 45,000 pounds of a potentially toxic liquid and it was leaking from the top of the tank. The tanker contained acrylamide, which is used to make polyacrylamide, a compound used in some cosmetics and in some food packaging materials, in soil-conditioning agents and in the formation of plastics and specialized grouting agents.
MER personnel worked with local emergency response agency's to identify the hazardous material and develop a plan for preventing any further contamination. MER personnel, contracted by the trucking company, identified the source of the dripping leak, transferred the material into another tanker and righted the overturned tractor trailer. Moran personnel then proceeded to remove any contaminated soil from the accident site.
