MER Jacksonville responds to fire retardent foam release at St. Augustine, FL plane hangar
Moran Environmental Recovery (MER) was contacted by our client to clean up a fire-retardant foam release at a St. Augustine, FL airplane hangar. The fire-retardant foam was triggered after a probable lighting strike at around 1:00 am on Saturday. Nobody was harmed, but several of our client's employees were located within a plane located in the hangar. Once Florida Light & Power shut off electricity to the building, the three employees were removed from the plane and the clean-up operation could begin.
Approximately 9,000 gallons of foam were released into the plane hangar. Working alongside the State Department of Environmental Protection, MER used vacuum trucks and several personnel & absorbents to pump out and clean the fire-retardant foam.
