MER Assists in Clean-up of Oil Spill in Charleston Harbor.
Moran Environmental Recovery (MER) assisted in the clean-up of a mystery oil spill in the mouth of Charleston Harbor. The Coast Guard responded to mariners reports of oil sheen and tar balls on Tuesday October 20th. The oil was reported to be in the harbor, between Fort Moultrie, Morris Island, & Sullivan's Island. In addition to MER personnel actively cleaning up various beaches, three MER Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Teams (SCAT) worked with the Coast Guard to identify areas where oil was washing up on the beach.
