Orange Beach, AL:
The on-going Deepwater Horizon Incident MC-252 in the Gulf of Mexico has captured national attention and is requiring unprecedented efforts from the response community. As a recognized leader in the field, Moran Environmental Recovery LLC (MER) has significant involvement in this effort. We are working closely with both industry partners and regulatory agencies to mitigate the impact of this event, and have deployed a large contingent of MER personnel and key subcontractors. Additionally, we have launched an aggressive campaign to recruit, train and employ qualified, local individuals to work with our Team. In the past several weeks, we have hired a large number of boat operators, technicians and administrative support personnel from the local community in which we are working. We have an objective to be recognized not as an outsider capitalizing on an unfortunate event, but rather as a welcome member of the community for as long as it takes to accomplish our job.
We are also working hard to make sure that our primary commitment is to the many key clients we service throughout the year. We believe that providing safe and reliable service is the foundation of our relationship. Because emergency response is a core component of our business, MER has programs in place which minimize the impact on our base business during spill events. We have a detailed backfill plan for all assets that have been deployed, and we are operating in accordance with all applicable regulations which require us to have certain capabilities in a particular geographic area. For this event, we mobilized our MEMT (Moran Emergency Management Team), which comprises a group of employees who have unique expertise and knowledge in the field. These employees represent some of the best in the industry, and all are willing to travel at a moments notice to manage our response. We have worked hard to make sure that adequate coverage is provided to any individual who may be away from their normal “day job” during this incident, including communication to our key clients on maintaining their normal service levels.
Lastly, I simply cannot say enough about the hard work and dedicated effort put forth by all of our employees on this event. Our Teams are working tirelessly in extremely trying conditions, many away from their families for extended periods, in order to combat this spill. They continue to work safely, efficiently and with great respect for both the environment and community around them.
To each and every one of them, I say “Thanks”.
