July 2015 Safety Brief

A Note from Leanne

Summer is here and that means family vacations, barbeques, water parks and a whole lot of other fun activities. Though summer is great because the warm temperatures allow us to wear shorts and participate in fun outdoor activities that are not typically available during the winter months, the hazards associated with summer heat can make working outdoors challenging and dangerous.

Much of this month’s Safety Brief will focus on the various ways that we can protect ourselves from the hazards associated with working in the summer heat. There are tips on staying cool, fatigue management, shift rotation and other effective work practices. The most important thing to remember is this: heat stress is no joke. It can happen very quickly and it can do a lot of damage just as quickly.

And even though we’ll focus on how to protect ourselves from heat stress at work, recognize that heat-related illnesses can happen at home too, so use this information to protect yourself and your families during the summer months.

Have a great summer and stay safe!
